For the past two weeks I have been trying to narrow down the list of books I simply must read this year.  I get super excited at the prospect of starting to read a new book.  Oddly enough, ever since I began working at a publishing company my personal reading time has exponentially diminished.  I'm not letting that fact bring me down, though.  So, I have decided on a few books, but I would like recommendations, too.

So, without further ado, here is my short list for books to read:

Absalom, Absalom, William Faulkner
Home, Marilyn Robinson
All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy
The Blank Slate, Steven Pinker
This Side of Paradise, F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand
Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen (can you believe I have never read this?)
Anna Karenina, Tolstoy

You should definitely read Pride and Prejudice. For obvious reasons, but also because I plan on finishing it soon and we can discuss its wonderfulness. You should also read Room With View. As it is about a young woman who takes a tour of Italy I feel it is relevant for my life as well as a classic book promoted by the popular television series, The Office, in an episode involving the Finer Things Club. Another book on my list is The Elegance of a Hedgehog. It is apparently really popular in France. And I kind of like knowing what is going on in popular literature across the pond. It is supposed to be a lovely, poignant portrayal of a young girl and her unlikely relationship with an older woman in which both lives are changed in unexpected ways. As for a book I have read that I don’t think you have read: French Women Don’t Get Fat. In no way am I suggesting that I think you personally need this book. But I actually do think that every girl would benefit from the author’s practical and somehow charming advice. And plus, I am obsessed with it and so naturally, you probably would love it too. OH. And you should also work on finishing the Anne series. Pronto. Okay, I like this post.
